No doubt social media has become an important platform for influencing, expressing, sharing and shaping opinions. It’s significance and prominence in shaping mindsets in the recent tension is also undeniable. From expressing solidarity to proving nationality. From exhibiting hate to demonstrating each other’s military capabilities or from urging the leadership of the country to give a befitting reply to enemies, or from being war mongers every platform of social media continued to be busy.

In this moment of great distress between these two nations and with possible and horrifying chances of further armed conflict,  the role and responsibilities of Peace activist, Pacifist, and sensible citizens becomes more crucial.

So Aaghaz-e-Dosti conducted it’s third PEACE HOUR twitter campaign in this scenario. Besides ground activities, Aaghaz-e-Dosti has also utilised social media in it’s goal and has runs many initiatives on our official social media pages. “Peace Hour” is another pioneering initiative of Aaghaz-e-Dosti.  It is a twitter campaign wherein peace supporters tweet on a given day and time and transform twitter to a platform of peace, sanity and humanity.

To address the current scenario, a Peace hour was conducted on the International day of Peace 21 September with the hastags #Istandforpeace and #Aaghazedosti. We addressed several issues. Given the situation wherein an emotional urge for armed conflict is fuelled by nonstop media propaganda, there are voices against peace, and especially those who support peace. We are attacked (on social media yet) bullied, suspected, and labeled as anti-nationalist supporting other nation by asking for peace.  In these tough times what binds us as peacekeepers from both the countries is our hope in peace and strong belief that war cannot ever be a solution, an effective and humane solution needs to be emphaised upon. And this is what we tweeted.

Together we condemn every attack on innocents by the enemies of Humanity in India or Pakistan or anywhere in the world.

We believe, our soldiers are the first and worst victims of war. We think, to keep the border calm and our soldiers stay in their bases, we the soldiers of peace should fight at every front. The struggle for peace seems to be long nevertheless we are hopeful and we will continue to work for peace between India and Pakistan. All it need is #Aaghazedosti.
