Article: Bajrangi Bhaijaan explored the role of people for peace – Review by Ilma Iqbal (India)
Bajrangi Bhaijaan is a supercharged cross border movie that is set in the colorful ‘Chandini Chowk’,Ā the desert of Rajasthan and the snowcapped beautiful Kashmir, delivering the message of subcontinental peace.
It is a moving story of Pavan’s (Salman Khan) quest to unite the girl “Munni” (Harshaali Malhotra) with her parents against all the odds. Bridging many divides-religion, national identity and food habits, the two develop an unlikely bond that wipes out all the prejudices. Director Kabir Khan had pulled out an old theme of humanity trumping a history of bitterness!
The movie dealt with the issue of communal hatred, intolerance, stereotypes around religion and about a Pakistani residing in India. But this was countered in the movie when the people of both countries unite for the same cause, fostering brotherhood and peace. The movie was about the common people, their sufferings due to the conflict and their power to change it.
Dialogues like “Kaash dono mulkon mein aise log hote toh aaj baat kuch aur hoti” depicts the remorse of the common people. A dialogue by Shahida’s mother played by Meher Vij when Shahida is lost “Hindustan 5 minute door hai, mai khud dhoond laugi” with response by the constable “5 minute door ke liye apko phir se visa banwana padega! Hindustan hai wo , doosra mulk hai wo !!” was definitely a moving line from the movie.
The scene depicting the forceful confession of Bajrangi by the Pakistani police force showed some real pictures and this is what PROBABLY happens across the borders and in India as well. Not to forget to mention is also ofcourse “Bhar do jholi meri” track through which the superhit jodi of Adnan Sami and Salman is back after a span of 8 years! The movie had brillant actors. Nawazuddin Siddiqui has done an awestruck performance as the Pakistani journalist Chand nawab. Salman Khan maybe the principal driving force of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, but the real star of the film is the super cute child actor Harshaali Malhotra. Watch Bajrangi Bhaijaan even if you aren’t an inveterate Salman Khan fan, Harshaali will surely steal your heart š
